First Rice Cereal

My dear baby started on rice cereal this week and *gasp* loves it. Sure he has his fussy times where he won’t eat it, but overall he is loving it. I personally think the stuff tasye nasty…but I suppose at this point he doesn’t have my refined tastes. What was your first baby feeding experience like? Comment and let me know

You never think it’s really true…

Tomorrow my little boy will get rice cereal for the first time. He begins his journey of solid foods. Tomorrow cereal, then puree, then table food and the next thing I know he is heading to college. I can’e believe it has been 5 months this week since my little boy came into the world. 5 months of caring for him, lovng him and playing with him. I will go to bed tonight with mixed emotions. I am so happy he is developing well and is ready for this next step. He’s growing so fast and strong. At the same time I miss those early months when I could cuddle him and stare at my little tiny baby.

You never really think it is true when parents tell you how quickly kids grow…but it is.

Firsts: There is a First for Everything…but usually not all in one day

So my dear baby had a few firsts today.

•  He sat up from leaning on a pillow for the first time, which lead to…
• falling and hitting his head for the first time. (he’s ok)
• He hugged our main coon cat with the long black fur for the first time (as much as a 5 month old hugs)…
• and ripped his first chunk of cat fur out (our cat is ok)
• He sat in his high chair for the first time and got his bottle in it.

So many firsts…what will tomorrow hold?

What goes in must come out…

My son was out and about with me all day. Normally I pack spare cloths in his diaper bag, today for what ever reason I didn’t. We were doing fine until I decided to run my aunt up to Walmart. I  had my son in his car seat and I picked her up. It took less than 5 mins to drove to Walmart and in that 5 mins he managed to pee right through his diaper, onsie and pants.

Luckily his aunt decided to spoil him and he got a cute little outfit for me to change him into…almost like he planned it to work out that way:)

Teeething: And So it Begins

My dear baby has been drooling lately, a sure sign teething was on it’s way. You hear the stories about the baby who cries, fusses and can’t be made to feel better…but you never think for a minute it could happen to you!

He started 3 days ago, this is day 4. I can tell when it started because his regular whine for no reason went up a few notches and became a whole new whine and whimper. He began whining while sucking his thumb, that was the clincher. That thumb is his feel good medicine, and if it wasn’t working, or worse yet making it hurt more, then here come the teeth.

Yesterday brought the teething sniffles, so now he hurts and can’t breath. I have heard a few people tell me that they don’t give their baby anything for the pain. No oral gels or Tempra. Sure those oral gels feel weird and numb eveything including littl tongues, but I can’t imagine letting him whither in pain without it.

So begins the teething adventure. I hope it doesn’s last long…for both our sakes.

Outing: Stars & Strollers

I went to a Stars and Strollers movie at a Famous Players this last week and got to see “The Proposal”. I wasn’t sure how this was going to work out since I took my Grandmother (who is 88) with me. We arrived late and sneaking into a theatre late with a baby and an 88 year old is a lot less stealth then when you do so with a date. After we got ourselves settled, my dear son needed to be fed. He fussed for half the move and then fell asleep.

I think I would do this again, but arrive early.

Things to Know:

• The staff may ask you to leave your stroller in the hall for fire safety, but everyone else had theirs with them…and you really do need it.
• The best seats are right in the front next to the area for wheelchairs (a great place for the stroller you won’t leave outside).
• There are other kids there, so interruptions are inevitable (but I barely noticed)
• The have the lights on more so then in normal theatres so you can see.
• Shows are only offered Wednesdays or Thursdays at select theatres.
